Preclinical results with Vicore Pharma drug candidate published in Circulation
The highly prestigious scientific journal Circulation has published a article by Drs. Kaschina, Steckelings, Unger and co-workers from the Center for Cardiovascular Research, Charité – Universitätsmedizin, Berlin. The article in Circulation 2008; 118 entitled “Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor Stimulation – A Novel Option of Therapeutic Interference with the Renin-Angiotensin System in Myocardial Infarction" summarizes the results achieved by treating rats after myocardial infarction with Vicore Pharma’s proprietary “compound 21”. Cardiac function of “compound 21” treated rats was significantly improved and infarct scar reduced when compared to vehicle treated animals, which was a result of attenuated inflammation and apoptosis within the periphery of the infarct area. The study results are interpreted as a strong proof-of-principle for the company’s drug candidate.
Further manuscripts are due for submission shortly and Vicore Pharma foresees a further increase in the scientific and consequent commercial interest for the company’s proprietary drugs.
